Anna Joan's Art
Award winning artist from Suffolk living in the city of Cambridge
Specialising in British wildlife and Pet Portraiture

As I began trading I managed to win awards in local competitions; I received multiple 'Best in Category' awards and proudly took home the trophy for Young Trader of the Year in the East of England for the year 2024, placing among the top 12 of traders under thirty nationally.
In February 2025, I was accepted to study for an MPhil in Archaeology at the University of Cambridge, resulting in my move to the city.
My name is Anna Joan and I am a Suffolk-born animal portrait artist, using only coloured pencils, living in the city of Cambridge.
My journey started in lockdown where I first began drawing pet portraits for friends and family after being furloughed and to help fund my Open University degree in Classics. During my study, I was able to grow my customer base from local to international, create an online shop and, in-turn, a stall for local craft markets.

Pet Portraits

Portrait of Max and Alfie, 2024
I am a firm believer that pets make your life that much better; to own an animal, and have one completely entrusted in you and living happily alongside you, is a privilege. I know that pets, big or small, hold a special place in our hearts and deserve to be immortalised in art.
My expertise so far in drawing pets includes dogs, cats, horses, rabbits and guinea-pigs, with dogs being the most frequent animal I draw.
Prices
Due to my study being relatively intensive for the next academic year, I am only offering A4 portraits during this time (the most commonly selected size amongst my customers).

During postage all of my portraits are insured out of my own pocket and posted via Royal Mail's first-class signed and tracked service.
I am able to offer the cost of the portrait being paid in 3 installments to make my art more accessible.

One of my favourite original works thus far, this portrait travels beyond the border of Suffolk, all the way up to the Scottish Highlands. The artwork is an experimentation of texture and light, featuring a sharp edged depiction of this stunning creature with both warm and cold hues. Natural light allows the portrait to come to life; the cold, blue hues of the snowy landscape reflected onto the hare's face dominates the portrait, but the warmth of the sun pierces the eye, revealing its fiery glow.
Scottish mountain hares have been placed on the the GB Red List as Near Threatened, in part due to climate change.
